What is the nature of this contest, please?
Is it to scribble aimlessly in rhyme,
To finish drivel in amazing time,
Or shall we show inventiveness in these?
For me, the tortoise, rather than the hare,
Will be my model: slow and steady pace.
I doubt one poem per day will win the race,
But I will finish that's the prize I'll share.
And as we travel on this winding course,
I hope to point out sights along the way
Insights, that is, derived from the array
Of themes we're given as our daily source.
It's not to win or lose I stake this claim,
But, in the end, it's how you write the game.

But in a couple of weeks, I'll put the "son" in sonnet!
